A Nexans R&D Designer at the Golden Tech 2024 competition for industrial excellence
Mar 22, 2024The Golden Tech competition will be held at Paris Nord Villepinte during the Global Industrie trade show from March 25 to 28, 2024.
On this occasion, Loïc Legrand – R&D Designer at Nexans in Calais (France) and Golden Tech 2022 and 2023 winner, will be taking part in the prestigious competition again this year, in the " Designer" and "Competition Maker" categories
How does the competition work?
The Golden Tech competition aims to showcase the attractiveness of the industry and celebrate the men and women who embody it on a daily basis. The competition is a continuous show that evaluates the dexterity and know-how of candidates in selected professions.
Among the competing professions, Loïc is a candidate in the following categories:
- Designer : the designer imagines the shapes of the products of the future. In addition to his or her knowledge as an industrial draughtsman, he or she designs the architecture of an entire product, chooses technical solutions and carries out digital computer simulations.
- Competition Maker : being a Maker is a state of mind, characterized by the sharing of knowledge and tools, and often embodied in collaborative spaces. The competition is open to all enthusiasts: professionals, experienced individuals... or motivated groups of students and their teachers!
2024 theme
Visitors will be able to follow a chronological itinerary to discover all the demonstrations. The demonstrations are presented in such a way as to tell the story of the industry. An annual theme will help to create links between the various professions and show the interaction between them.
Golden Tech 2024 is taking advantage of this special year for Paris to highlight the close links that exist between industry and sport... Or how industry and its innovations serve sporting excellence.
Meet Loïc!
Loïc Legrand has been R&D Designer for High Voltage cable systems at Nexans in Calais since 2008.
With a scientific background, Loïc has always had a passion for designing and inventing small mechanisms. Then he discovered 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) in High School and had a revelation.
Among Loïc's many achievements:
- Design and development of high-voltage AC, DC and superconducting cable systems
- Design of specific tools and machines, for example to produce prototype superconductor cables to test different insulation configurations
- 3D mechanical, thermal and electrical simulation
- Production of 3D-printed models of accessories and photorealistic renderings, such as a Superconducting accessory for the SuperRail project. Some of these models are part of the decor of the What's Watt by Nexans electricity channel.
- Creation of virtual reality showrooms
- Assistance in setting up high-voltage laboratories thanks to 3D modeling of electric field spheres.
Loïc won the 2022 "Designer" gold medal. The challenge was to design a CO2 detector that would be fun for elementary school children. The penguin designed by Loïc and his team flaps its wings if the CO2 level is too high and the room needs to be ventilated.
- 2023 "Competition maker" Gold medal
- 2023 "Designer" Silver medal
- 2022 "Designer” Gold medal
